General description

Submerged perennial. Stems freely branched. Slender leaves with large teeth & prickles on underside. Stems prickly.

Prefers shallow, fresh or brackish water.

Vegetatively from fragments

Dense beds blocks waterways, impeding drainage, disrupting recreational activities choking hydro turbines. Out-competes native species.

Site management

NOTIFIABLE ORGANISM. Report to MAF, council or DOC biosecurity team.

Recommended approaches

1. Dig up rhizomes, remove all material from pond.
2. Spray larger infestations, (5-7L Roundup Dry/ha/100L)
