General description

Perennial wetland shrub <3m high. Woody taproot. Dark green stems branched and hairy when young. Oval to lance shaped leaves covered on both sides with minute, soft hairs. Conspicuous yellow flowers Spring-Autumn. Erect fruit capsule.

Still freshwater, wet soils: wetlands, ditches.

Seed dispersed by waterfowl, human activity, water movement. Vegetative spread by suckers, broken stems.

Clogs waterways and replaces native plants.

Site management

Begin treatment at top of catchment and work downstream. Clean all boat, trailer and fishing gear.

Recommended approaches

1. Weedmat small infestations for at least 4 months.
2. Spray (100mls glyphosate/10L)
