General description

Scrambling, perennial herb <3m with tendrils. Soft, green leaflets in pairs on angled, winged, hairless stems. Purple-pink or magenta pea-like flowers (Sept-May) on long stalks in loose clusters. Flattened, light brown seedpods.

Waste areas, roadsides, coastal sands, gravel. Prefers open sunny areas.

Seeds dispersed by wind, water, pod burst. Vegetative spread by scrambling.

Changes soil fertility by fixing nitrogen. Forms dense infestations, smothering native vegetation , blocking light.

Site management

Remove all fruits/pods to prevent seeding. Requires regular follow up.

Recommended approaches

1. Dig out.
2. Slash old growth, spray regrowth (100ml glyphosate + 20ml penetrant/10L).
