General description

Small erect shrub (2-5 m tall), grey green opposite leaves (5-20 cm long, width <9 cm). Red (or sometimes white) trumpet-like flowers in hanging, terminal clusters, followed by cylindrical dark-purple berries.

Track and stream sides, forest margins, disturbed and intact forest.

Bird dispersed fruit

Forms dense thickets replacing native species. Very shade tolerant.

Site management

Recommended approaches

1. Remove all seedlings and mulch.
2. Dig out larger plants.
