General description

Deciduous tree to 15m high, dark brown, fissured bark. Toothed leaves oblong (5-10 cm). Buds and young leaves slightly sticky with a resinous gum. Distinctive flowers (catkins) present in winter.

Moist or waterlogged sites & along rivers.

Wind, gravity and water. Suckers.

Can form pure stands in wet areas. Fruits prolifically.
