Deciduous tree to 15m high, dark brown, fissured bark. Toothed leaves oblong (5-10 cm). Buds and young leaves slightly sticky with a resinous gum. Distinctive flowers (catkins) present in winter.
Moist or waterlogged sites & along rivers.
Wind, gravity and water. Suckers.
Can form pure stands in wet areas. Fruits prolifically.
This species is included because it is one of the species to be researched in the 2007-2012 Auckland Regional Pest Management Strategy.
